Rockabilly is sexy, retro, and classic. There are loads of ways to style this look, but you have to pay attention to detail. Rockabilly is a classic vintage look with a rock and roll feel.  I was misinformed at first, I thought if you take Marilyn Monroe and put a few tattoos on her, then WoW, Rockabilly is born…but no. It’s more to it than that. You have to have the right hair, makeup, and of course clothes. Let’s break Rockabilly style down, starting with my favorite thing in the world….Fashion!

Attention everyone! Rockabilly style 101: The fitted top.

Try to choose a blouse that accentuates your curves. It can be sleeveless, spaghetti strap, long sleeve, short sleeve, well you get the picture. Fitted sweaters are a favorite amongst rockabilly mavens, as well as dresses in fun patterns. Patterns such as polka dots, vintage art, gingham, houndstooth, and even stripes will put you on the right track the achieve Rockabilly status. Form fitting jeans are classic to this style. The cut of your jeans is important; make sure they are close fit with a narrow cut in solid colors. You can also get regular cut jeans, and roll them above your ankles, with sexy heels. Now for shoes, high heels are a given. Due to modern shoe styles, the classic pump is extinct. In almost all shoe stores, every high heel “pump” has some kind of platform. Well, I implore you to stay classic and get no platform pumps, in red or black. I would definitely go with a red pump with a bow or rose on the toe, just to give a little quirky flair. Lastly, don’t forget about stockings. Sheer stockings with the line down the back are preferred and even fishnets, but that depends on your taste.

To complete your look, you must create an appropriate hairstyle with proper makeup. When choosing a hairstyle, look to the pinups of the past, and emulate those looks. Bettie Page’s classic hairstyle is a great example, but there are tons of options you can find online. Any 1940s-50s era-inspired hairdo should do the trick. Headbands and scarves in nice patterns really create a unique look. Rockabilly makeup is easier than you might think. A freshly scrubbed face with a really good foundation will give you a fresh glow. Eye shadow is great, but black eyeliner and fake lashes are even better! Of course, you’ll need fabulous red lipstick, be sure to go with your skin undertones to choose the right shade.

Rockabilly is a term used to describe an individual who exhibits a classic bombshell look, with a hard rock edge. I’ve come to find that personality plays a big part in your look. To even want to wear this style indicates you are someone who appreciates classic style. The elements of rockabilly style mentioned are basically a blueprint of how to achieve this look. Your individual style must shine through, so have fun, and don’t forget to be creative.
