JEAN PAUL GAULTIER’S SS18 COLLECTION

The most evident trend pulsating throughout the fashion industry for Spring/Summer 2018 is the obvious reference to the 1980’s. The asymmetrical silhouettes, cinched blazers, and sharp shoulders are reminiscent of the power era, which is what Jean Paul Gaultier has been representing in his collections for the past years; powerful women that are almost bionic on the runway. The monochromatic color palettes were also stunning, with quirky textures and flowing ethereal floor length dresses. There were a few colorful gems that made a great impact and set a placemark for the looks that followed. Creative asymmetrical jackets with details, like the fanned hypnotic calf length boot gave the collection a modern feel that was energetic yet fun. Overall, I would say this collection had something for all ages; the adorable runway walk from Coco Rocha and her 2-year-old daughter made an even bigger statement. J P G is for everyone, no matter where you are in life.

VALENTINO’S SS18 COLLECTION

Spring designer collections have a recurring theme about them; soft color palettes and ultra-feminine silhouettes. Valentino’s collection represents the most popular Spring/Summer trends, but with a more sophisticated approach. The full raincoats with large pockets will be highly sought after for the season. Floral sheer fabric mixed with soft silks and even “Italian ice” red velvet pant sets are breathable and ripe for the season. The red color broke up the myriad of lavenders, pinks, and Polk-a-dot prints. The racer back and front styles of the dresses are cleaver and styled well with the matching bralette tanks. Overall, Valentino’s collection was definitely an excellent example of how to make classic elements of spring/summer modern, youthful, versatile, and exceptionally beautiful.

FW18 MAX MARA

Very impressive and fit for the season; it’s the best way to describe Max Mara’s ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2018. Aside from the lush and quality textiles utilized throughout the collection, the styling was also attention grabbing. Layering leather and overlapping animal prints radiates a warm essence that is expected for the colder months, yet the styles still looked comfortable and versatile in movement. The plaid wool floor length skirt was adorable and paired with the full-slouchy motorcycle jacket, it exuded youth and confidence. Let’s not forget the fringe. Sweaters with fringed cascading down the arms gave a note to classic 80’s western style. The most wearable looks were the t-shirts and floor length dresses. The finishing touch, with the pink fur long coats help to break up the subtle fall color palette nicely. The entire collection was edgy, with a sleek clean finish. Each item is versatile and inspiring for the colder month to come.

FW18 TRUSSARDI

There are too many beautiful aspects to mention for Trussardi’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection. First and foremost, the panoramic mountain scenery just screamed summerset in aspen. It set the tone for the entire collection. The panoramic mountain imagery on the outerwear and bags looked ‘cool’ in every sense of the word. The collections overall color palette was nontraditional; olive, sky blue, and deep yellow throughout. There were also notes of soft pink and even magenta which gave the collection softness. The zip turtle neck inspired pieces are also trendy, without feeling stuffy or dated. The box cut jackets gave the models a strong look, as well as the leather pants and black leggings. Ski inspired and fierce is how to describe Trussardi’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection. It’s resilient in construction and represents fine quality in style.

FW18 JENNY PACKHAM

Compared to most collections, this one is short and sweet. There are 21 pieces for Jenny Packham’s Fall/Winter collection, which proves that it’s not about quantity, but quality. Once again, we notice lots of blush hues in pink, magenta, and plum. This collection has a more formal approach to Fall versus just featuring trendy upscale casual styles. Adorable jumpsuits in sparkling fabrics and sexy cuts are perfect for upcoming holiday parties. The long gowns in sequin fabrics are also appealing, and in the always desirable fitted or wrap style silhouette. Jenny Packham’s glamour filled designs are reminiscent of a sparkling night sky. Overall her collection is polished and chic for the holidays.
